one piece
One Piece is a Japanese anime series that aires on FUNimation, Cartoon Network and FoxBox. This anime has two different English dubs; the censored child friendly 4Kids dub and the non-censored Japanese translated adult themed FUNimation dub. 4Kids aquired the license to use One Piece in 2004 to be aired on FoxBox. It was heavingly censored featuring name changes, different voices (Sanji was given a Brooklyn-esque accent and his cigarette becomes a lollipop) and several things edited. Some different music were added for some sad scenes and sometimes the voice direction would be so terrible that the jokes would not even make any sense. In November 1,, 2005; One Piece and Mew Mew Power were reportedly missing from the 4Kids lineup. 4Kids stated that it's not cancelled and will return to new episodes starting on February 10. Several arcs from the show were removed and edited; causing a continuation error between the show. Some of the games were English and localized by 4Kids themselves and were heavingly edited to match the current progress with the show when the original game have the characters in an arc that the characters in the 4Kids dub never went to. Also, the pop theme song was changed to a rap theme song which had some negative feedback amongst fans but had some positive attitute with the music feel.
One Piece has finally come to an end when an announcement was heard in March 16, 2006 where 4Kids states that they will concentrate on producing there own shows. A fall on profit was the blame of other dropped licenses such as Yu-Gi-Oh! (Konami) and Pokemon (Pokemon USA), although One Piece was held to save the results. The company resulted in dropping some of there biggest licenses such as Pokemon. The dubbing of new anime lessened and 4Kids announced in December 6, 2006 that they have canceled production of the dub. 104 episodes out of the 135 original episodes were dubbed to English by 4Kids. After which, 4Kids dropped their license.
